Is there a word for craving brought about by something that smells wonderful, and is tantalizingly close to being edible, but not quite?

I'm making french onion soup, and the onions just hit that first stage--cooked, but not yet caramelized. The butter has melted and separated, the salt has penetrated, and I just added a dash of balsamic.

I'm becoming very, very hungry just sitting in the same room with it.
