New Google Product of the Month
I'm ten minutes into the Google Wave presentation, and I'm sold.
In a year or so you won't need an IM client, you won't need an e-mail program, and you probably won't need MS office on your home computer.
It's an exciting time to be alive!

This sounds absolutely fantastic. Maybe I shouldn't be so enthusiastic about yet another technology, but when it promises to be more open and flexible and "egalitarian" than what it replaces, it seems like a Good Thing.(TM) And since it'll be open source, I doesn't necessarily need to feed paranoia about Google taking over the world.
Watching the demo of the "spelly", "linky" and "searchy" robots, it looks like someone could make wave into a perfect tool for plagiarizing undergraduate essays...
Sadly, you raise an excellent point. And as my wife reminded me, the price of making online communication faster and more rewarding is encouraging the further abandonment of interacting 'IRL', as they say.
Hrm... So, this should be a technology we oppose on philosophical grounds, even though we secretly lust after it? ^_^
What's the middle ground?
