Equinox
aequus: 1. equal 2. level, even 3. calm 4. fair, impartial
nox: 1. night. 2. darkness 3. a dream (also, figuratively, death, ignorance, confusion)
Balanced on scales of ignorance, calmed by dark confusion.
Day and night, equal? No; never equal:
only matched, as armies on a scale of war
brought closer to distance, as sea to land
ordered into regular syncopation, the beat and the rest.
Daylight flattens dreamscapes into fleeting memories,
while moonlight lifts the day's mundane shadows
to the height of phantasmagoria.
The fairness of death is the balance of seasons
the first day of spring means freezing rain.
