Fluffy

I'd like to introduce you all to a new friend:

Fluffy was hanging around a friend's front door--she's a female Araneus Gemmoides. (also known as the Cat-Faced Spider, can you guess why?) My friend's housemates didn't enjoy walking under a huge spider web every time they came into the house, and a few of the more skittish guests started refusing to come inside. Needless to say, things were escalating, and Fluffy was in danger of losing more than just a home...

I brought Fluffy home with me on Monday: the pickle jar was still a bit slippery and pickley inside so I gave her my bandanna for the ride home inside my motorcycle jacket.
I got some funny looks from the librarians when I pulled the pickle jar (with giant spider) out of my jacket at the reserve desk... I also noticed a sort of itchy sensation all over my skin when I was riding home, but the lid was on tight so I tried to ignore it...
[reflexive shudder]

Here's Fluffy's new home: the hay shed beside the shop.

Fluffy doesn't like photography so I'll try not to take too many more pictures. I did get some shots on B&W film (Ilford Delta 100) with my macro lens, we'll see how they turn out.

Fluffy has two sisters (Fuzzball and another whose name I keep forgetting) who still live at my friend's house, but they're at the back door, so they can probably stay without causing too much trouble. Hopefully, we'll see even more little spiders in the spring that will grow up to be even more big spiders and catch lots of flies.

Kay So Ryan reads this less than I do and Today he came up to me and very sweetly says, "Babe, just to warn you, the next time you look at Dan's blog, there are pictures of the spiders posted." Wasn't that sweet of him.

That is all.
